Giants Gifted Important Piece of Jewelry
After several renderings had been leaked over Twitter in recent weeks, the Giants finally received their Super Bowl XLVI Championship rings, presented to them in a midtown Manhattan ceremony at Tiffany & Co. on Wednesday night."I've seen pictures," defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul said. "Ain't nothing like the real thing, right?" The ring, which was designed by Tiffany & Co. with input from several players, features the Giants' four Lombardi Trophies as well as a circle of 37 blue sapphires.
"I got one," said running back Ahmad Bradshaw, who already had a Super Bowl XLII ring from the team's previous championship. "I got this second one coming and hopefully I get my hands filled up."Anmol Jeweler's earliest patrons included Malaika Arora Khan, a sister-in-law of the actor Salman Khan, and the actress Shilpa Shetty, famous for winning the British TV show "Celebrity Big Brother"in 2007.The brand produces a few thousand pieces a year, most of which are manufactured in Mumbai at 17 Anmol-affiliated workshops. Prices start at $300 for a small ring or a pair of earrings but can exceed $100,000 for a necklace.
Movie stars like Ms. Shetty and Lara Dutta turned to Anmol Jewelers for their wedding jewelry, an important part of an Indian bride's trousseau."I wanted my wedding jewels to be traditional, so Ishu created pieces made of polki,"or uncut diamonds, "and uncut rubies with a matching cummerbund, which is what we south Indians wear,"Ms. Shetty said via e-mail.Also included was a maang tikka, a forehead ornament, made of rice pearls, she added. "My favorite piece was the peacock amulet, which was Ishu's design and idea. The reception jewelry was vintage, made of diamonds and rubies."I felt like a princess. A lot of thought went into everything. And I told him it can't be replicated for anyone, which he agreed to,"Ms. Shetty said.

Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar in expansion mode
Fashion jewelry design is in the midst of a renaissance the likes of which we haven't seen since the 1980s. And Alexis Bittar blazed the trail. In the last two decades, the New York-based jewelry designer has gone from selling his signature colorful, hand-carved Lucite pieces on the streets of SoHo to bejeweling leading ladies in Hollywood and beyond, including Lady Gaga, First Lady Michelle Obama, Madonna, Cameron Diaz, Meryl Streep and Rihanna. At the same time, he's managed to keep the core of his collection in an accessible $225-to-$645 price range. And now, with a recent influx of cash from private equity firm TSG Consumer Partners, Bittar is ready to expand his vision globally and to introduce a new, higher-priced line of jewelry in sterling silver and gold that will debut next year.
He's already one of the most prolific jewelry designers in the business, turning out hundreds of pieces each season that incorporate innovative materials such as molten metals, reconstituted coal and Lucite, which was big in the 1950s and is currently having another moment in fashion but which Bittar has built his brand on since the beginning. For spring's O'Keeffe collection of bold, Southwestern-looking Lucite cuff bracelets and collars, he took cues from the artist's skulls and Native American textiles, then layered on Art Deco-ish crystals.
Another spring group, Dark Garden, features Lucite beaded necklaces and carved floral brooches with crystal-encrusted thorns, movable blooms and pollen pods. The younger sister collection of the family, named Miss Havisham, includes "man-made druzy quartz" cocktail rings carved from crushed glass embedded in resin. It's no wonder that art museum shops caught onto his talents first, followed soon after by high-end boutiques and department stores, including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's."[Alexis] is responsible for elevating the status of costume jewelry and making it a category that is taken much more seriously in fashion," says Brooke Jaffe, fashion accessories director of Bloomingdale's. "He draws in a broad range of customers."

Installing vinyl floor tile
Let's face it. There are some hideous patterns floating around out there. And as you stand in the middle of your kitchen, contemplating the options, you choose to replace it yourself. Wonderful! The first step is what will you replace your old flooring with? With so many options today, linoleum, wood, ceramic tiles or vinyl tiles are all viable possibilities. Today's project will require replacement with vinyl tiles. Many home repair centers sell these squares in boxes and individually. However, before you go, measure the size of your room. The service staff at these stores will happily figure out your square footage and tell you how many tiles you're going to need.
Most of these stores will also allow you to return your leftovers and receive credit for them. But, you might consider keeping a few, just in case of damage or if a mistake is made along the way. These vinyl tiles also come in good, better and best quality. If this is a temporary measure until your home improvements are completely finished, go with the good tiles. If this is permanent, splurge and get the best quality tiles. They're more expensive per box; however, in the long run they have the best survival rate and a better selection of patterns.Upon returning home, open up a box of tiles and lay them out on the floor.
Get a good idea of where you will start. If there are appliances in your way, you can either move them and replace the tile underneath it or leave it alone. Just remember that if you ever have to replace that appliance, it may be narrower than your existing item thereby showing the old tile. It would be best to do it now to keep consistency.By now a portion of your old linoleum may have started coming up, if not, find a corner and start pulling. Using a putty knife with a thin blade will allow you to chip and coax the old floor covering from its glue. As you are going along, occasionally stop and check out the floor underneath. If there is obvious damage from water or shrinkage, you will want to replace those pieces of plywood.
